Student nurse placements

Through our association with the University of the West of Scotland, we are able to offer student nurse placements at our homes in Bishopton. These placements are part of the University course and can last from four to eight weeks.

What you’ll learn

Depending on the stage of your training, there are various opportunities to learn more about specialist nursing care. This includes:

  • Safe moving and handling techniques
  • Personal care and care planning
  • Communication
  • Continence and pressure ulcer management
  • Nutrition
  • Emotional and spiritual needs
  • Delivery and review of personal plans

Depending on the home you are assigned to, you may also be involved in dementia and end of life care.

A mentored approach

As a student nurse, you’ll be assigned a mentor who will be one of our registered nurses. Their role is to support, direct and guide your learning. We believe that this approach provides a positive learning environment for pre-registration student nurses from adult and mental health branch programmes within the University.

How to apply for a placement

Student nurse placements are made through the University of the West of Scotland. Please contact your University course leader for more information.
